Manipulated Images -

Definition -

Composite Images: Composite images use multiple images and then combine them into a single image.

Manipulated Image: An image that has been edited. Images can look surreal or realistic when edited.

Personal and Ethical Issues -

A personal issue that could arise is that people may not wish to edit their images at all let alone in a surreal or possibly unethical way.

An ethical issue that could possibly arise, especially within the media industry, is the Photoshop of portraiture which can create social pressure and oppressive beauty standards on people within society.

Areas of Art and Design Industry Using Image Manipulation -

One of the most significant areas that use image manipulation is the advertising in the Magazine and Fashion industry which edit portraits featured in articles and on cover pages. During the editing process models 'imperfections' are removed and airbrushed which can link to one of the most common ethical issues relating to image manipulation; image manipulation of portraiture can result in oppressive beauty standards and therefore social pressure based around beauty.

Other areas that use image manipulation are surrealism, film, TV and music videos.
